Available direct from this site:

This is a program compiled by the Collision Investigation Division of Transport Canada's Road Safety and Motor Vehicle Regulation Directorate. Within it you will find various dimensions etc. for vehicles found in Canada and North America. Many of these are available across the world so regardless of your location if you need vehicle specifications you should find it useful.

To install the package, run the program cvs20052.exe. This setup program is a self-extracting WinZip file which, by default, will install CVS in the sub-directory c:\Program Files\WinSpecs. The installation program will provide the user with the option to specify an alternative working directory. If the directory already exists, by default, the old files within will be overwritten.

You can get the file by clicking here. (1.5mb)

Review With thanks to David Eisenbeisz, Krueper Engineering and Associates, Inc. [UK]

" Neptune Engineering has a nice and professionally put together website that offers some very useful info for the accident investigator. Personally, I use the Vehicle Interchange List (Sisters and Clones) on about 75% of the cases I work on to determine what other names a particular vehicle may be known as. This is particularly useful when searching government databases for crash test data (or recalls, defects, TSB's, etc.) because often a manufacturer will crash some of one type and some of another type of the same vehicle. For example, a Nissan Quest minivan (manufactured by Ford Motor Company) is also known as a Mercury Villager for the years 1993-2000. This allows one to search for crash tests of either vehicle and be relatively confident that they are structurally identical. I have not used the vehicle stiffness parameter service and do not know how reliable it is. There are also several SAE technical papers offered on the site (no charge) that give a fairly comprehensive perspective on vehicle damage analysis."

With thanks to Wade Bartlett [USA]

"I have owned the latest version for a few years now and find it to be of inestimable value for research and for checking out other people's references...Loads of great papers on reconstruction topics....I have recently also added the STAPP and OCCUPANT PROTECTION CD sets, which are of lesser value to me, but still often useful. Money well spent."

Details of data Results of controlled decelerations using a variety of goods vehicles to establish criteria for describing the manner of deceleration when examining tachograph charts from vehicles involved in traffic accidents. This was not intended as a test of vehicle dynamics, but a test of driver perception in relation to gentle, normal and heavy braking.
Also further tests in relation to the skidding of goods vehicles for use during the mathematical investigation of traffic accidents were carried out.

Review This is a DOS program, it runs fine in Windows but has limitations. I'd like to see drop down boxes and the like for ease of operation. The programmers must consider that pressing [C]ontine; [B]ack etc. is rather tedious in this age! The demo lists available data then refuses to display it! I wasn't impressed. For nearly $500 I'd expect a lot more...
