Details of program

HVE [Human - Vehicle - Environment] is 3-D Simulation Software Environment for Vehicle Design Engineers and Safety Researchers. [See http://www.edccorp.com/products/hve.html]

HVE (2-D) Crash Reconstruction and Simulation Software for motor vehicle safety researchers. [See http://www.edccorp.com/products/hve2d.html]

Review Peter Jennings [Ashton & Jennings, UK]:
"HVE has great potential, but navigating around the various screens is currently a skill which takes some mastering. It is hoped that over the next year or two the program will be updated to simplify its user interface and provide more guidance for the novice user."

Details of program This is a free package for predicting the braking and handling behaviour of vehicles with four wheels and independent suspension. Included are simulation (wire frame) models that show changes in the vehicles properties. A full professional version and versions for commercial vehicles are also available.
Review This is a very complex program, with a well written manual. However, from the view of an Accident Investigator - it is probably of little use. I feel this because it is aimed at students of vehicle dynamics and the like, who want to know "What if we altered this part of a vehicle ...?" Where as an Accident Investigator we are more concerned with "The car did so and so what might have caused this?"

Despite this - it is the sort of program to obtain (it's free!) and keep on a floppy disk (or three) just in case.

There are other programs available from the University - if this one is of use to you - check out the other pages on their web site for more information.

Delta - V and accident re-run's.
The particular claim of this program is Unequalled accuracy - quite a claim by anyone's standards. Crashex (Computerised Reconstruction of Approach Speeds on the Highway EXtended) calculates the Delta - V impact speeds from the input data. This can be shown graphically in plan view or the information can be sent via the Internet to Fonda Engineering who will compile the data into a computer movie, or onto a video tape for court use.
Review Fonda Engineering are clearly aiming at a level of use no one else seems to be. They supply the source code of the calculations of the program and claim that this ensures you the reconstructionist to be able to check the program so you can stand up in court and defend the results. This source code can be modified by the operator - although why you would want to is unclear.

Details of program Crash occupant simulation
Simulates what would happen to a vehicle occupant (based on vehicle and their size) in a crash comparing the use of seat belt and/or air bag.
Review The demonstration is very interesting and certainly seems to show all the correct movement of the "wire frame" vehicle occupant. I recommend. looking at the demo.

Demo Demo's (in movie style) available from http://www.mchenrysoftware.com/demos.htm
Details of program This program is comparable (so the authors state) to the ED-SMAC and PC Crash programs. This is a vehicle accident simulation program. Having entered the data to reconstruct the accident this can be viewed on the PC screen or output to Video for use at court, for example.
Please note:- McHenry Software Inc. have written other software, as yet not shown here [m-hvosm, m-crash and m-edit]

Program title PC-Crash
Category(s) Simulation Trajectory analysis and simulation
Author / Company Dr. Steffan Datentechnik
County of origin Austria
Operating System Windows 95+
Cost Up to US$4,200
Contact US - http://www.maceng.com/pc_crash/index.html
Demo Demo available from http://www.maceng.com/pc_crash/pcc_demomain.html - the program requires a hardware key (dongle) to run - so the download is the full program with samples to look at.
Details of program Available in 2D and 3D versions
As well as providing a "re-run" of the accident in question variables can be set for such things as suspension and tyre variations, driver reaction, braking, and many more. Acceleration rates can be calculated on engine power and gear ratios.
The latest revision (to 5.0) includes vaults; vehicle occupant movement; wind resistance; up to 32 vehicles! and various languages supported. But then you would expect a lot for US$4,200 wouldn't you ?
